Our History

In the Spring of 2023, the current Executive Committee explored the possibility of starting a Democratic Club in the 65th Assembly District - Part B.

Starting a new Democratic Club in communities like the Lower East Side, East Village and Loisaida is both a corrective and a visionary act. It means building political power where it has historically been ignored, underestimated, or exploited. These communities have long been the backbone of the Democratic Party; turning out in elections, organizing on the ground, and leading movements for justice, yet they’re often left out of decision-making spaces and party structures.

A Democratic club rooted in these communities creates a home for grassroots leadership, civic education, and issue-based organizing. It ensures that our priorities like housing, public safety, education, and economic dignity aren’t just heard but lead the agenda. It provides space to groom future candidates, train volunteers, and hold elected officials accountable not just during election season, but every day in between.

Not having one that was active and present was harmful because it reinforced political neglect. Without a club, our voices can be filtered through gatekeepers who don’t share our lived experiences or urgency. It allows the party to operate without transparency or input from the very people it claims to represent. It leaves organizing power on the table, power that could otherwise be used to fight displacement, challenge harmful policies, and build coalitions across neighborhoods.

A club isn't just a meeting, it’s a declaration: we belong in this party, and we will shape its future. On November 1st, 2023, District Leader Daisy Paez presented Three Bridges Democratic Club to the Manhattan Democratic Party's Executive Committee and the club was approved.

On August 1st, 2024, Daisy Paez resigned and Magda Napoleon was elected by the County Committee.

On June 24th, 2025, both Magda Napoelon and Jasmin Sanchez won their District Leader elections and now represent the Lower East Side from Smith Houses to Campos Plaza across to the East Village & Loisaida!
